Are the Seahawks’ Gearing up To Make a Big Free agent signing?

As the off season wraps up, most teams might be done adding free agents. But the Seahawks might not be done adding free agents. Of course, the Seahawks still might add a run-stuffing DT, like Damian” Snacks Harrison or Josh Gordon who still awaits clearance from the NFL. When Free agency had started the Seahawks’ had not gone after any of the big time EDGE rushers. Last season the Seahawks’ struggled in pass rush so they added Darrell Taylor, Bruce Irvin, Benson Mayowa and Alton Robinson who can all play the Leo role. It seems like the Seahawkexpect last year’s players to step up like LJ Collier and Jaren Reed who was re-signed to a 2-year extension. I do expect Jaren Reed to be better this season mostly because we know he can produce 10.5 sacks in one year.

I will break down 2 of the most likely big off-season signings for the Seahawks’.

Clowney had wanted 21 million dollars at the start of free agency, but clearly, he was not on the same page as the NFL market for DE. 21 million dollars would make Clowney one of the highest DE in the game. Currently, his value stands at around 13-8 million dollars. If any team were to get Clowney, the team would most likely get him at around his current market value. The Seahawks’ latest offer was around 14 million, and there are not a lot of teams out there willing to sign him. The Raider’s had recently gave him a ‘’low ball’’ offer and Clowney denied it. The Browns’, who looked like the front runner for getting Clowney have also likely dropped out of the bid. Recently the Browns offered him a 15-million-dollar contract but Clowney also rejected that offer, so the Browns went ahead and extended Oliver Vernon to a new contract with 11 million dollars guaranteed. This move most likely eliminates the Browns’ from getting Clowney. According to 710 ESPN Seattle’s John Clayton, Clowney prefers the Saints and the Cowboys. He also says that none of those teams can sign him without making major cap moves. So that leaves the Titans and the Seahawks. The Titans’ said that they would sign him at a reasonable price. They gave Vic Beasley a 9.5 million-dollar contract who had 8 sacks last year. If the Titans had to sign Clowney they would have to get him under 9.5 million Dollars to avoid conflict between Vic and the Titans organization. Paying someone who had 3 sacks more than someone who had is just wrong. I don’t think the odds are great for Seattle to sign him, but it is a possibility.

Jamal Addams is a pro bowl, hard hitting strong safety that reminds me a lot of former Seahawks Cam Chancellor. A trade for Jamal could make a legendary secondary for the SeahawksDespite only having 2 interceptions entering 3rd year in the NFL, he had 6.5 sacks last yearThat’s more sacks than any player on last year’s Seahawks’ rosterHe is excellent in zone coverage and might be the best zone coverage safety in the game. However, the Jets don’t want to trade him. Reporter Jake Heaps, says he knows a source that confirms interest from the Seahawks for a trade for Adams. If the Seahawks have interested him, they would have to blow the Jets away with a huge trade offer. Mabey a first round pick and Marquise Blair. The Seahawks’ might even need to trade a first round pick and Bradly McDougal. I don’t mind trading a first round pick mostly because the Seahawks usually trade it away. And this time we are trading it basically for a pro bowl safety, so we know the talent we are getting. With Jamal you can place him anywhere on the field. With his hard hitting capability he can play strong or free safety. Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams would make and extraordinary team in the back field. If Jamal Addams is a Seahawk, he might help spark the aggressiveness back on to the team. Jamal Adamas might be the last piece to a Legion of Boom 2.0. Trading for Jamal is long shot and we have a better chance to sign Clowney. However, I would still keep this trade in the back of my mind, knowing it could happen.
